In the Classroom

Room 100 is no ordinary Kindergarten. Decatur's smallest students prove they are BIG KIDS TOO!

Kindergarten students work 1-2 years above grade level and use both the Harcourt Reading and Math series textbooks.

Expect your Kindergarten student to have nightly homework, and reading assignments every other weekend. Learning good study habits at an early age is one of the keys to Decatur students' success.

Students have regular visits to the Computer Lab, Science Room and Library; and enjoy PE in both the Multi-Purpose Room and the JCC Gymnasium. Student's also have regular language, tap and music lessons.

In addition to our classroom curriculum Kindergartner's at Decatur participate in the following:

  • Show & Tell
  • Jr. Great Books
  • Mrs. W's “Around the World” Show

KIDSPIRATION

Students in Kindergarten will begin using Kidspiration in the Computer Lab. Kidspiration is designed to assist young learners in the writing process. This program has the benefit of audio to support emerging readers so students get the opportunity to hear their work read aloud. Activities focus on reading, writing, science, social studies and math. This software is sometimes available for purchase on the Scholastic Book Order if you are interested.

Recommended Reading
