Enrollment in Decatur Classical School is by application, CPS socio-economic guidelines and examination. Children between the ages of five and eleven are eligible to apply. Those who perform in the 8th or 9th stanines in reading comprehension and mathematics problem solving are accepted on a space available basis. Kindergarten students are accepted by the highest raw score in accordance with CPS socio-economic guidelines.

Gifted and Enriched Academic Programs Applications are available at the school office during Fall. You may pick one up on school days between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Applications are also available at your local library and Alderman’s office.

All applications for the 2009-2010 school year must be postmarked no later than DECEMBER 18, 2009. The applications for the following school year usually starts late September and concludes in December.

Testing for prospective Kindergarten students will take place early in the year. You will be notified by the Office of Academic Enhancement in writing as to the specific test date for your child.

Results of exam and admission status are mailed in early spring. For more information about when to expect results please check www.cpsgifted.org

Tours of the school for parents of prospective students are held in the fall. There are usually 2 sessions, one in October and one in November. Specific dates/schedules for the open house are provided in September.

Prospective parents are addressed by the principal and will have an opportunity to ask questions at that time. We ask that this be an adult only event.
