Current Status

Decatur Classical School is designed for academically talented students. A classical program is provided for children who excel one to two years above grade level. Children are provided the opportunity to participate in both an enriched and accelerated academic program emphasizing traditional liberal arts. The student body reflects a diverse multicultural population united in the harmony of a goal oriented curriculum enveloped in a cooperative learning milieu.

The staff of 17 members consists of a principal, a teaching assistant principal, a counselor, 10 classroom teachers, a Latin teacher, a part-time library teacher, a part-time music teacher, a gym teacher, a part-time special education teacher and a .5 special services teacher. Additional members of the staff include a secretary, teaching assistant, lunchroom attendant and an engineer.

The Decatur Classical School learning community helps students assume responsibility, feel self-confident and worthy. Our challenging curriculum allows students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Individual differences are valued, respected and used as a resource for learning. The ultimate goal is to unlock within each student the ability to think, to create, to freely express and apply ideas that will help students achieve their fullest potential, thus, build a future for all.
