3rd Grade Language Arts - 1.11.19

This week in 3rd grade, the students work with a paired text about television long ago and today. The students enjoyed learning about how television has changed over time and the impact it has had on America. With this text, the class was able to work on skills of compare and contrast, using text to support inferences, and using the text to make inferences. The class also completed writing their persuasive letter. The final draft included and introduction paragraph, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.

Next week, 3rd grade will be doing NWEA testing for Reading on Monday, January 14th and Wednesday, January 16th morning for Room 102 and Wednesday, January 16th and Friday, January 18th for Room 105. I have been conferencing with each student to talk about their NWEA goals for third grade and how to continue to do their best on this assessment. Please let me know if you have any questions about this by emailing me at escole@cps.edu. Thank you!

3rd Grade Language Arts - 12.21.18

This week in language arts, the students worked on finishing up lots of different projects. In reading, the class completed their novel projects for Fantastic Mr. Fox. These projects turned out amazing! Next, the class read a story about a snowman and worked on both main idea and details and answers with text evidence. In writing, the class worked on editing and revising their persuasive letters. The students will write a final draft of this letter after winter break. Last, the students watched the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox on Thursday and Friday. The class did a great job comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences between the novel, movie, and play.
