Henry's Freedom Box | 7th grade students analyzed Henry's Freedom Box to see how children's literature depicts slavery and stories of resistance.

Moot Court | Tinker v. Des Moines

8th graders simulated Supreme Court proceedings for the 1968 case of Tinker v. Des Moines. Students played the roles of the justices, as well as the attorneys arguing each side of the case. Students developed questions for each set of attorneys, while attorneys crafted arguments based on precedent and their understanding of first amendment rights in schools.

Gallery Walk

6th and 7th grade classes used our Gallery Walk activity to review primary resources for each of our units of study. 6th looked at various resources from maps and first hand accounts bearing witness to the tragedies of the Holocaust. 7th graders looked at resources analyzing slavery as an institution of power.
"The Idea of America" Found Poem | 7th graders combed through the phrasing of the Declaration of Independence and an essay by Nikole Hannah-Jones to develop a found poem highlighting what they thought the idea of America is.
New Day's Lyric | Students took a moment to mark the end of the second quarter creating their lines to a class poem inspired by Amanda Gorman's New Day's Lyric.  The student's lines marked their feelings when faced with a challenge but also their hopes in persevering through those challenges as a  community.
"We the People" Found Poems | 8th grade students reviewed various profiles of social movements in our nation's history to analyze how the phrase, "We the People", has evolved throughout time. Students created found poems from the most significant phrases in their readings to express their understanding of "We the People".

Fill a Heart 4 Kids

Jr. High worked together to pack over 200 care packages. These packages will help support homeless students who do not have the safety net of school lunches during the winter break. We thank our families for contributing to such a fulfilling opportunity for our students serve others. We are so proud of how our students came together to complete this project.
Investigation Trail | 6th graders went on a little investigation moving about the room trying to connect a cause to its effect.  This short investigation help students review the concept of cause and effect for their research essays on the Holocaust.
Language & Perception | 7th graders looked at various examples of how language can influence our perception of something or someone.  Students discussed how subtle differences in the way we say something can reinforce implicit biases that perpetuate certain stereotypes.

First Amendment Instagram

8th graders created Instagram posts to show how the First Amendment allows individual citizens to be civic actors in a democracy.
Bubbling Cauldron Metaphor | 6th graders used the Bubbling Cauldron metaphor to show their understanding of events, groups, and people after WWI that fueled strong emotions and responses which would effectively change the course of history.
Analyzing Political Cartoons | As they say, "a picture is worth 1000 words". 7th graders analyzed the powerful messaging of political cartoons throughout history.  In this instance, students looked at immigration cartoons past and present to analyze US perspective from those time periods.
Holocaust & Human Behavior Unit | 6th grade students analyzed two images from WWI to help analyze the impact of the war on the world.  Ms. Siddique loved joining in with the students to engage their thinking even more!
