Friendly reminder that students have dolphin dash in the morning. Students should wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather outside. We are running in the morning so it will be cooler! 

 

Students will have items to wear for the run, no costumes are allowed at school.

 

Student grades are set for quarter 1! On to quarter 2!

5th Grade Math: Students are finishing up our unit 2 and will have their unit assessment on Thursday October 29th. Students always get an update on their google classroom with what the homework is each week. It is good practice to have them check the google classroom every monday!

 

4th Grade Math: Students finished unit 2 with the recipe project. Thanks for all the great photos of students creating awesome recipes!! We will start multiplying fractions next week!

Hello 5th Grade Families! 

 

A few updates for the week

 

Student Service Club - Mr. Murray came and spoke to the students about Student Service Club, this is a version of student council. If students are interested in applying the application is on their google classroom with instructions on how to fill it out!

 

Grades - Students last day to turn in missing or make up work is Tuesday October 20th. We will go over how to access ASPEN in class together and practice looking over our grades

 

5th Grade Google Classroom -  I will post updates of upcoming big assignments and homework. We always go over it in class as well as written on the board but if students are unsure getting into the habit of checking google classroom on Mondays are great practice for middle school!

Hello Math Families!

 

No school for students this Friday but teachers are hard at work collaborating and planning for more fun and engaging lessons throughout the year

 

Students will be finishing our first unit of the year with Area and Surface Area. To challenge students understandings we will applying our learning to a real world project. Students will create a To Go container and calculate how much material is needed to create. Instructions are posted on their Google Classroom and materials will be passed out on Monday! The information that is posted on their google classroom is located below!

 

Homework/Mini Project Unit 1 Lesson 14
Assigned: Monday September 28th
Due: Friday October 2nd

Students will complete the follow assignments

• Complete the Unit 1 Lesson 14 Work Pages packet - passed out Monday but also on Google classroom
• Create a surface area net of a to-go container for one of the food items chosen and calculate the amount of material you need to make it (surface area) 
• Make a to-go container to the measurements they create of their surface area net using materials of their choice (paper, card stock, cardboard, etc, no premade to-go containers)

Planning the work - Students should try and plan to complete the first three pages of their "Unit 1 Lesson 14 Work Pages packet"  before Wednesday September 30th.They will have time in class on Tuesday

Students will have a work days on Tuesday and Wednesday September 29th and 30th students are encouraged to bring in their materials to build for to-go containers, any leftover work will be completed for homework. Teachers will supply scissors and glue and have paper incase students do not have materials, but we ask students bring in the materials to make the to-go containers. Please bring in these materials by Wednesday September 30th the latest.(Paper, cardboard, cardstock, etc, whatever they would like) (The goal is the math and measurement, not the actual build of the to-go container)

Students have been working hard on their Volume Zoos! Thank you so much for all the hard work of bringing in any empty boxes, we will recycle any left over! 

 

When students are done we will be moving on to our second unit Fractions as Quotients and Fractions as Multiplication. You can see the Unit at a glance below

Thank you so much for everyone that came last night to Curriculum night! It was so great to see so many familar faces and new ones as well.

Today students were introduced to their first homework assignment for Math! We covered examples, how to login and modeled examples.

 

Students will be completing a small poster to demonstrate how they are a mathematician. All students are apart of the Math community and we all come from a variety of backgrounds. Below I have included the link to a set of slides for an example, including my own example. There is also an example on their google classroom.

 

 

Hello 5th Grade Families!

 

Another awesome week in the books in Math Class. I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!

 

5th Grade - Students got familiar with Amplify Desmos online platform as most of their work is assigned through it. We learned about each other and started to work on understanding Surface Area and Parallelograms. Next week students will learn how to find the area of parallelograms without and grid and to find the area of triangles

 

4th Grade - Students have been learning how to find the volume of rectangular prisms and different strategies to solve!

 

Things to Note

• Students received a PURPLE “Take Home” folder where assignments, work, or other important information will be sent home.  This folder will come home with your student every Friday.  Please send this folder back with your child each Monday to establish the routine. (Sometimes students will bring home on different days if they have important information to bring home. When you get the folder, look through the material with your student and send it back to school with them the next school day!
