FIRST Lego League
Congratulations to the two Decatur FIRST Lego League teams that made their debut at the City Qualifier on Sunday, December 15 at Speer Academy. Decatur students worked together to code a robot to complete as many missions as they could on a playing field. Teams also presented in front of judges to describe how they built and designed their robot, what problem they identified and created a solution for within their community and as well as describe how they worked together as team this season. While we did not advance to the State Championship, we have learned so much in our rookie year and students are excited to get started on next year's competition! Way to go teams - we are so proud of everything you've accomplished this season!
What is FIRST Lego League?
We're excited to be bringing an exciting new after-school program to Decatur. The FIRST Lego League is a national robotics competition. 4th-6th grade students at Decatur program will be exposed to hands on experience engineering a robot to complete up to 14 challenges in 2 and ½ minutes. Students will also design an Innovation Project where they will identify a problem with a building or public space in their community and design a solution to solve it.
Students will complete their missions and present their Innovation Project at the Chicago City Qualifier on Sat. Dec. 14. If they advance to the next round, students will have the opportunity to compete at the state and national level in January.
