Ms. Maggie's Bio
I am so excited to be starting my first full school year as a SECA at Decatur! I joined the team in February of 2025 after graduating from the University of Utah with a M.S. in Environmental Humanities.Throughout graduate school, I sought out opportunities to teach and work with youth audiences in environmental education. I’ve loved my recent work as a state park naturalist and field trip educator, and returning home to Chicago, I decided to pursue education full-time.
My interdisciplinary academic background makes me excited to teach in all content areas, and I’ve loved working alongside elementary students to explore their curiosities with unabashed enthusiasm. I’ve found my passion working with diverse learners, focusing on creative and fun ways to develop executive functioning and emotion regulation skills.
I am one of Decatur’s cross country and track coaches, and love supporting students to develop endurance, collaboration, and resilience through running. When I’m not at work, you can find me volunteering with the park district, hanging out with my family, reading with my partner and our cat, and swimming in Lake Michigan!
