Ms. Dare's Biography

Katie Dare grew up in the Philadelphia area.  She got her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in Film and Television, and her Masters in Art of Teaching from Clemson University in South Carolina.  
 
Katie has worked in several schools throughout her career teaching a variety of subjects. She specializes in Math and Science and is so excited to be teaching these subjects to the Decatur students! 
 
In addition to being certified to teach all 4 subjects, plus Algebra to middle schoolers, she is both Google and Apple certified as well.  
 
When she's not teaching, Katie can be found walking and playing with her black lab puppy, Alfie, and crafting up a storm.

In 4th grade math today we took a quiz and then had some extra time on our hands, so we decided to take advantage of the weather and go outside for some fun before coming back in to do an activity about Earth's rotation. 
4th and 5th grade students will be taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) Test on March 19th - March 21st.
Students used flashlights and foam balls to recreate how the moon phases occur even when the moon is always half lit.  
Happy Valentine's Day!  Students decorated bags for their Valentines and then made bracelets with colorful and lettered beads. 
Students presented their TED Talks on Plate Tectonics on Friday.  Overall they did an amazing job and I'm so impressed by their hard work!
5th grade students used fossil and geological evidence to put the tectonic plates where they used to be in Pangea.
4th graders participated in an activity called "Water, Water, Everywhere," where they experienced what it might be like to be in various types of countries, including those where water is scarce.

Show Week Activities!  Students were given EXTREME Connect the Dots, which they absolutely loved.  I was super impressed by the focus and perseverance of students who worked on them!
5th Grade students analyzed how different types of volcanic eruptions could create different types of igneous rock.  
5th grade students made posters that explained a rate problem they had to help review for a quiz coming up.
