The Decatur visual art figure drawing unit helped students learn proportion, observation, overlapping, concentration, style and risk taking. Exploring portraiture of artists Alberto Giacometti, Stik, John Singer Sargent and Caroline Demangel, students reflected on their own preconceptions of what art “should” be. Letting go of these internal obstacles, Decatur’s young artists have begun to express their own unique ways of viewing the world.
