Makerspace: Sep. 20-27
Students continue to strengthen their team-building skills by creating the highest tower they can using a maximum of 100 index cards and no more than 24 in. of tape. Students are surprised at first with how limited they are with their materials but soon realize that they often do not need to use all of the materials they are given. Students' perseverance has amazed me while they continue to rebuild even if their structure has fallen apart.

Capital Letters Scoot
Students received a review mini lesson of capital letters. They learned that we capitalize: names of people or pets, names of places, stand alone I, days of the week, months of the year and beginning of a sentence. Then they put it to practice with this scoot!

Students have been learning about sound waves and how energy travels in all forms of waves. We created this model to help us understand how particles in a waves collide and as result transfer energy to the next particle and on and on.

Seeing the World Through Numbers
Students worked in pair to read a text called, Seeing the World Through Numbers. They were challenged to visualize each number from the book's illustrations. For example, the number 128 can be visualized as 128 ft, 128 centimeter 12 millimeters..etc Without these forms of measurements, scientist would have no context for understanding the world.

Slaps, Taps & Wraps
We started our basketball unit this week and started practicing our dribbling. One of the drills we did was called Slaps, Taps & Wraps. This drill helps with our hand and wrist strength along with out ball handing skills.

5th and 1st Grade TEAM up!
5th Graders worked to assist 1st graders in a measurement activity involving standard and non-standard units to measure objects in the classroom. 5th grade is working on unit conversions and 1st grade is learning how to measure!
