2:45 Week 6 of 2022-23 | 5th-8th Grade Science
This week's slideshow highlights: Several pics of students displaying the NGSS Science & Engineering Practices of "Carrying out investigations", "Analyzing-Interpreting-Collecting data", "Obtaining, evaluating, & communicating information", and "Engaging in argument from evidence" as they like to share their ideas in front of the class; 8th grade continued investigating their SEPUP Forces & Motion Inquiry Unit by exploring the variable of mass on kinetic energy of an object and what causes an object to change direction; 7th grade dug deeper into their Inquiry Unit on "From Cells to Organisms" by investigating past scientific discoveries that led to the development of "Cell Theory of Disease" and they also began a lab exploring "how can we find evidence that cells are alive?"; 6th Grade continued their exploration of "Geologic Processes" by learning about the role of volcanoes in forming various types of igneous rocks as they continue to develop ideas on "Where to store nuclear wastes?"; 5th Grade explored the "Moon Phases" with an interactive/cooperative investigation trying to figure out the correct cycle of Earth's moon's phases. We are starting our soccer unit in PE, and our first skill we are working on in dribbling. The thirds graders practiced dribbling down and back, weaving in-between the cones and ended the day with a a relay race!

One of the hardest parts about making and creating music online is lag. We have trouble playing together like we can in person. Despite this, we learn to be better listeners, kinder friends to our classmates, and we endure challenges! Decatur 4th graders created performances anyway with recorders and percussion. They are the owners of their music making - and that is way cool even the virtual space

We wrapped up the week with a fantastic holiday party organized by our amazing room parents! Thank you to Lisbeth, Ginna, Jocelyn and Nicole for coming into our space to help facilitate creating bookmarks, playing bingo and a minute to win it challenge of drawing a snowman on a plate on top of their heads and of course laughing!

1:31 6th-8th Civic Engagement
6th, 7th, and 8th graders collected dry goods and reusable water bottles to fill care packages. Students filled the materials they collected into packages that students experiencing homelessness could take home over break.

1:26 Line Rider Project
There is a new interactive bulletin board up at school that features our final project from this school year. I am so glad that even during this pandemic we have found ways to express ourselves, to be creative, and to collaborate.
