Election Data Visualization

Students in 6th and 7th grade were asked to research current or past election data, given some resources, and create a unique visual representation of that data. Feel free to pause and linger on some of the images, I was blown away by some of the students' work!

Students in 7th grade created Tessellations as an assessment for their unit on Rigid Transformations.

As part of their assessment for a unit on Rigid Transformations, 7th graders created Tessellations by hand and submitted pictures of their work.

Students created a "Math About Me" Poster to share with the class, explaining different aspects of themselves, but expressed in a different Base-System (such as Mayan Numerals, Roman Numerals, HexaDecimal, Binary, etc).

JMS Food Truck Project - Menus and Nutrition

The Jr Middle School created a business plan for a Food Truck idea, and had to incorporate elements of nutrition (science) and Volume (math) into their menu and meal tray designs.

Students completed a unit where they designed a Food Truck that solved a problem with school lunches, and presented a business plan to their small groups explaining their idea.

Message to JMS students

JMS teachers created a short video as part of our "weekly check-in video" to tell our students we miss them and care about them.

RAFT - 4th, 5th, 6th

Students were given a choice board of "RAFT" assignments to complete, and here are a few highlights. RAFT refers to Role, Audience, Format, Topic. For instance, one of the projects is from the Role of the number 0, speaking to an Audience of other numbers, in the Format of a campaign speech/flyer, on the Topic of their "presidency" and how important they are to the number system.

5th Grade

The 5th grade worked on a Formative Assessment Lesson, where they look at a problem, share their individual solutions, and critique the reasoning of each other's work; and then have a chance to improve their original answer to the problem.

MathCLUB

Students were engaged in a game called "Salute" for the first meeting of MathCLUB. MathCLUB participates in many Math Competitions throughout the school year.

Students in each classroom created an "About Me" poster, displaying their interests and parts of their identity through pictures, symbols and text. "I'm Also a Mathematician" was added to each poster, representing the work we did studying other mathematicians and what it means to study and do math--all of us our capable of being mathematicians!
