4:06 Week 9 of 2022-23| 5th - 8th Grade Science
This week's slideshow highlights: All classes participating in an experiment to test to see where in our JHS Annex are there more microbes growing on surfaces as this experiment was a review of Experimental Design for 8th & 7th grade students, and an introduction for 6th & 5th grade students; 8th & 7th grade students worked on peer review of each others' STEM Fair Project Research Literature Review, as they are in the midst of their STEM Fair Inquiry Projects having also written their projects' Purpose Statements; students also spent 25 minutes this week spending their class' "Earned Game Time Points", thus continuing to strengthen classroom community by playing board games, chess, or card games during that time; and last but not least, Mr. K showing off a large-mouthed bass he caught this weekend as a way of encouraging students to spend more time outdoors in this Autumn season enjoying nature. 1:20 What can you design with a ball of yarn?
After experimenting with wrapping cardboard shapes & initials with yarn, students were challenged to create their own free choice design as long as the design contained yarn. This 6th grader designed a small box to carry a toy up and down the stairs. You won't want to miss this innovative design! She even included a seat belt! Enjoy!

00:26 4th Science Jigsaw activity Featured
Students participated in a jigsaw activity where they started in a base group and chose an animal they wanted to research how its eyes functioned. Each person in the group chose a different animal so later when they reported back everyone could share about a different animal. They researched with another partner how these organisms see and shared with their group what they learned.

1:24 Checkout our 'Penguin Hideouts'!
Students have been brainstorming & experimenting how to create a penguin hideout to keep penguins safe from predators. It's been great to see students persevere despite the challenges they've encountered along the way, especially when they encourage each other to not give up! Checkout their hideouts which include a lookout tower, slide and a rookery. Enjoy!
