Seeing the World Through Numbers
Students worked in pair to read a text called, Seeing the World Through Numbers. They were challenged to visualize each number from the book's illustrations. For example, the number 128 can be visualized as 128 ft, 128 centimeter 12 millimeters..etc Without these forms of measurements, scientist would have no context for understanding the world.

Week 18 of 2022-23|5th-8th Grade Science
This week's slideshow highlights: 5th grade investigating the ratio of water to land on Earth, as well as how water and land absorb and lose thermal energy at different rates as part of their SEPUP Weather & Climate Unit; 6th grade investigated the scientific theory of "Continental Drift" as part of their SEPUP Unit Geologic Processes; 7th grade wrapped up their SEPUP Unit From Cells to Organisms with an interactive activity called "Disease Detectives", where they worked as epidemiologists to argue from evidence the cause of a disease outbreak, and 7th grade also played team Jeopardy to review for the unit's culminating final exam; 8th graders continue digging deeper into their SEPUP Unit Chemistry of Materials, with a cooperative group lab that investigated chemical vs physical properties, and they also began exploring the property of density through an online Phet Simulation. 5th Grade Bio-Poems
5th graders wrote bio-poems expressing who they are, what they love, and their hopes and dreams. It was a great way to get to know one another, celebrate each student's individuality, and build community.

Gallery Walk
6th and 7th grade classes used our Gallery Walk activity to review primary resources for each of our units of study. 6th looked at various resources from maps and first hand accounts bearing witness to the tragedies of the Holocaust. 7th graders looked at resources analyzing slavery as an institution of power.

Hot off the press...check out our 3D Printer in action!
7th and 8th graders have been working hard this past month in Makerspace to get their Tinkercad designs printed on our new 3D45 3D Dremel Printer! We've learned a lot and overcome several challenges to send our Tinkercad designs to the 3D printer. This week, their work has finally paid off! Check out our first student designed key chains, as well as our class mascots: the Sharks and the Lions! More designs coming soon!
