This week we started our novel, The Story of Frida Kahlo. We are excited about reading this biography about this amazing and interesting artist!
This week we took some time to talk about our family holiday traditions and things we were grateful for this year. The pictures above show some family snow globes and gratitude mindfulness mugs!
This week, the student read The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco. We really enjoyed this heartwarming story of one family’s special symbol passed down from generation to generation.
Students worked this week with paired texts on the coldest and hottest place on earth. Be sure to ask your child which one they picked to write a summary about for their very own newspaper!
This week we explored folktales! We had a lot of fun doing a reader's theater on Friday in class of the Puerto Rican folktale True Colors.
Projects are a great way to show what students learned in a FUN and CREATIVE way! It also allows for student choice, students are able to pick the way they want to show their knowledge. Take a look at these great nonfiction projects about Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Tsunamis!
The Yellow and Green groups heard the book, How Big Could Your Pumpkin Grow by Wendell Minor. Then we drew giant pumpkins in different famous places including a Hawaii sunset, on top of the St. Louis Gateway Arch, and even on Mount Everest!
Students did a great job making posters for Social Studies about Indigenous Peoples' Day! Even in remote learning, it's important for 2nd graders to complete projects on paper like they would in school. These turned out AMAZING and show the personal style of each student!
Mindful breathing is an important part of 2nd grade and can help students focus, stay calm, or be more present in the moment. The students enjoyed both I Am Peace by Susan Verde and My Magic Breath: Finding Calm Through Mindful Breathing by Nick Ortner and Alison Taylor.
Ask your 2nd grader when they use their mindful breathing!
This week 2nd grade talked all about nonfiction books! We had a great time learning about whale sharks or puffins in our nonfiction texts this week.
This is one of the books we read about families! Ask your student about the poster they made about their family.
The second half of the week we focused on how to talk about nonfiction books and some differences between fiction and nonfiction!
