Marianne Sharping » Biography

Biography

Ms. Sharping is a highly-qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience and middle school teaching endorsements in reading, math, science, and social studies. As a product of the Chicago Public School system, Ms. Sharping is dedicated to public school education and arts integration. Ms. Sharping graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in Elementary Education. She earned her masters from the American College of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Her favorite way to teach is through discussion, small group activities and projects. When she is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family, painting, and playing competitive tennis.

In Pursuit of Dreams | As part of our integrated unit through the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, 5th graders began imagining the future and the possibilities it holds.

Ancient Empires Board Games

6th graders playtested one another’s ancient empire games to assess how well board games can be used as a learning tool.
Order in the Court! | 8th graders engaged in a moot court simulation of the Tinker v. Des Moines Supreme Court case to develop and analyze arguments around freedom of expression in schools. 
Gender Identity | 7th graders took on a culminating project looking at how gender norms and expectations have been shaped by history and society.  Students are creating paper dolls that show how today's society shapes gender identity for them individually and shapes our values as a nation.
Jr. High Team Builder | What a way to go into the fall break! 6th, 7th, & 8th graders enjoyed bowling, dodgeball, and other fun little team activities to continue to build community and have fun doing it!

6th Grade Ancient Civilizations Museum Exhibits

6th graders designed and curated their own museum exhibits for African, Mesopotamian, Asian, and Early American civilizations.
Sorting Voting Rights | 8th graders sorted how various roles could or could not vote throughout various periods in history. It was eye opening to see who could and could not participate in our democracy.
Preamble Art | 8th graders created visual representations of the US Constitution's Preamble as an intro to our unit on the rights and responsibilities of citizens. 
Concept Maps | 6th graders used concept mapping to help break down the informational texts on human populations and migrations thousands of years ago.

5th Grade Museums

5th graders curated museums of people, objects, and other artifacts that they felt were valuable to them. It turned out that family was one of the most valuable artifacts they could have in their personal museums.
Fun in the Sun | 6th graders got a little time to relax for a few minutes on the playground after a good week working hard and learning.
Inquiry Journal | 6th graders began working in their Inquiry journals to break down key vocabulary that would help us understand the essential questions guiding our units of study.
