Principal Negrón's Message

Decatur is a special place, thank you for taking the time to visit our website to learn about our wonderful school. As a relational and collaborative leader I know that schools are successful within a supportive culture and climate. Children must have people who love them, believe in them and are committed to their growth and success.  By taking into account students’ strengths, culture and individuality, every child is able to push beyond their edges of growth to explore new levels of learning. That's what we provide our students at Decatur. 

There is nothing more invigorating than being around children that are discovering, creating and growing right before your eyes. At Decatur we pride ourselves in immersing students in Arts integrated learning where academic content courses are combined with Music, Dance, Art, Makerspace, Latin or Physical Education. Our rigorous programming is now extended through 8th grade, where our Jr. High teachers build upon a strong foundation of instruction. We know what it takes for students to graduate successfully, and go to the best high schools in Chicago. 

At Decatur we are always working on who we are as a community, learning and growing together. I hope we can count on your support, positive energy and contributions to continue making Decatur a special place where both children and adults have safe spaces to learn and grow.
