Marianne Sharping » Biography

Biography

Ms. Sharping is a highly-qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience and middle school teaching endorsements in reading, math, science, and social studies. As a product of the Chicago Public School system, Ms. Sharping is dedicated to public school education and arts integration. Ms. Sharping graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in Elementary Education. She earned her masters from the American College of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Her favorite way to teach is through discussion, small group activities and projects. When she is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family, painting, and playing competitive tennis.

Congratulations to our 6th grade students for representing Decatur incredibly well at the Regional Chicago Metro History Fair @ UIC on March 30th.  Four of our outstanding projects are moving forward to the State History Expo in Springfield on May 2nd!
5th graders enjoyed the second part of the field trip to the Oriental Institute Museum.  They analyzed the problem solving skills of ancient innovators from Egypt.
Junior Archaeologists! Students use the scientific method to draw conclusions about which social classes may have used the Egyptian artifacts they uncover at the Oriental Institute Museum.
Hatshepsut took center stage for our Twitter activity in 5th grade. Students highlight her achievements as one of a few female pharaohs in Ancient Egypt.
6th Grade Jigsaw Activity: students become experts for their particular reading on "Identity"; groups use these anchor charts to teach their peers the lessons about identity that can be applied to our study on the Holocaust & Human Behavior.
6th Grade Jigsaw Activity: students become teachers and experts, helping their peers understand how the "us vs. them" mentality shaped the events being discussed in our Holocaust & Human Behavior unit.
