Classroom Expectations

LANGUAGE ARTS

• This year in Language Arts students will be reading  many different types of literature including fiction texts, nonfiction texts, and novels.

• Students will write narrative, informational, and opinions pieces throughout the year.

• The classes will also work on language mechanics including grammar, word work, and vocabulary.

 

ASSESSMENTS/CLASSWORK

• Please check your Take-Home Folder for work sent home. Please make it a habit to empty your child’s Take-Home Folder and look over their papers.  Folders should be returned to school the next day.

• Students that receive a 69% or lower on an assessment will do a retake and the highest score will be put in GradeBook.  Students should request a retake within a week of receiving grade/feedback.

• 60% will be the lowest grade entered in GradeBook for any classwork or assessment as long as a student completed their work. 50% will be the lowest grade given if NO work was completed.  We do not accept extra credit.

 

HOMEWORK

• We do not assign specific assignments for homework, however, students may be asked to finish an assignment that we started in class.  Please check with your child and in Google Classroom for what assignments should be finished at home.

 

GRADING SCALE

A = 90% - 100%

B = 80%- 89%

C = 70% - 79%

D = 60 % - 69%

F = 59% or below

• Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies

          Classwork - 40%

          Assessments - 60%

• Writing Categories

          Writing Tasks (Prewriting & Grammar) 50%

          Writing Products (Published) 50%

 

BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT

• At Decatur we all follow our school values: Be Present, Endure Challenges, and Take Care of Each Other.

• We also use CHAMPS in the classroom and around the school which guides the students with appropriate behavior and expectations.

 

STUDENT SUPPLIES

• You do not need to purchase any school supplies for your child this school year.  Your school fee covers all supplies and field trips.  You can simply send a check, pay online, or to school with your child or stop by the office to submit it to Mrs. Beard.  Waivers are also available in the office also.

 

DISSMISSAL

• Please make sure we understand how your child is getting home every day. Please send a note with your child OR email your child’s homeroom teacher by 12:00 p.m. each day with any changes in your child’s normal dismissal routine. This allows us to make sure your child is getting home correctly and safely. Any emergency changes in transportation made after 12:00 p.m., please call the office at 773-534-2200.

       Bus students will be dismissed first and the busses will leave the school by 2:45.

       ALL students pick-ups will be dismissed at the middle door #1, promptly at 2:45.

       If it is later than 2:50 to pick up your child, please meet them at the main office.
