Ms. Powell's Bio

Ms. Powell teaches Kindergarten and this is her third year teaching at Decatur! She grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and holds her BS in Early Childhood Education from Miami University, Ohio and has her MEd in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in English as a Second Language from Erikson Institute.
 
Prior to Decatur, Ms. Powell worked at Latin School of Chicago in their Junior Kindergarten program and served in the Peace Corps in the Philippines as an Elementary teacher. During her time in the Philippines, Ms. Powell worked with students K-6 focusing in English and Reading, and initiated various community projects. Ms. Powell is passionate about early childhood and feels grateful to witness the social-emotional, and academic growth that her young students make in the classroom.
 
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Powell enjoys spending time outside, reading, cooking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Yearbook Information

Orders:  Please visit the Jostens website to directly place orders for the 2022-2023 DCS school yearbook.   Yearbooks will be distributed to students during school at the end of the school year in June.  All orders are due before April 1, 2023.  Please email Miss Mitten at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Photo Submissions:  If you have some fantastic photos from DCS school events, sports and activities please consider submitting them to Yearbook Club to consider for use through the easy & secure ReplayIt website at  https://images.jostens.com/ using the login ID: 0mqxalssEyKOu4-kfnjooZA

We cannot guarantee all submissions will be used and will not be able to use any with students who have not given permission for their images to be used in media; however, the Yearbook Club would love to see all your great pics and have a variety of options to select from.  Photos will be accepted until April 1, 2023.  Thank you in advance!

Cover Art Contest:  DCS would like to showcase student-created artwork on the yearbook cover again this year.  Students in grades K-8 can turn in their entries to Miss Mitten in Room 112 anytime before Friday, December 12, 2022.  See the attached flyer for more information and specifications.
